Wow.
So I definitely haven't kept up with this like I originally hoped...
Oh well. Nobody's reading now anyway. No harm no foul.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Anyway.
Secondaries were a pretty huge nightmare. Last year I only filled out 5 or 6 of them and this year I ratcheted that up to a round 15. It was roughly a month and a half of scraping out every ounce of passion and enthusiasm I could ever hope to have and pouring it onto a word doc, and then, if I had the energy, I had to shape this mess of raw material into something profound and beautiful. The ups and downs of this period were fantastic. Over the course of a day I could convince myself one minute that I would surely get in somewhere and the next that I was simply not a strong candidate and needed to start making plans for a new career!! and future! and life (ugh). But now that the writing and soul searching period is over my attitude has more or less settled into "meh, If I get in, I get in. If I don't, I don't." So it goes.
StudentDoctor.net has been a friend and foe and I'm starting realize that if I look hard enough I can find some unqualified applicant who is willing to confirm my highest hopes or darkest fears. My recommendation for anyone apply in the future is to stay off this site and if you need advice or a sympathetic ear to go talk to a med student.
It hasn't been all bad though! I really am surprised to say that at this point I have very little to complain about. The osteopathic school applications have been a big success with 3 out of 4 yielding II's (interview invitations for those who don't speak studentdoctor.net). And I have even gotten 2 allopathic school II's. THAT'S TWICE THE NUMBER I GOT LAST YEAR. So it goes.
I started this blog with the hopes of being very open and liberal with the details of my applying, but studentdoctor.net has scared me into believing anonymity is important. For the time being anyway. I'm sure I'll post more details after my interviews are over (or at the very least tell you where they were).
Cheers.
